This side of the studio is new, so please call before you book anything. It covers Stage 1 remaps on cars that support them, plus suspension, exhaust, intake, brake, wheel and tyre upgrades. Tell us what you drive and what you'd like it to do better, and we'll tell you if it's work we can take on.

The performance list

What changeson the car

01

ECU remapping / Stage 1 tuning (supported vehicles)

The engine's control unit holds the settings for fuelling, ignition timing and, on turbocharged engines, boost. A Stage 1 remap changes those settings on a car that's otherwise standard, and it's only offered on vehicles that support it, so we need the exact model and engine before we can say yes. An engine that already has a fault needs that fixed before any remap.

02

Performance suspension upgrades

The standard springs and dampers come out and coilovers or stiffer ones go in, usually with the car sitting a little lower. It leans less in corners and settles faster after a bump, but the ride gets firmer and you lose some clearance over speed breakers. Worn bushes are best replaced at the same time, and the car needs a wheel alignment afterwards.

03

Performance exhaust systems

Everything behind the catalytic converter comes off, and pipes and silencers that let the exhaust gas out more freely go on in its place. The first thing you'll notice is the sound. On its own an exhaust adds only a little power, and it tends to make more difference once the engine has been remapped too.

04

Air intake upgrades

Either the paper filter in the factory airbox is swapped for one that flows more air, or the airbox comes out altogether for an open cone filter, sometimes with a wider pipe to the engine. You'll hear more intake noise when you accelerate, but on a standard engine the power changes very little. A cone filter drawing hot air from under the bonnet can make less power than the box it replaced, so it needs a heat shield or a cold air feed.

05

Brake upgrades

Depending on the car, this can mean performance pads, braided brake lines and fresh fluid, or bigger discs and calipers. Braided lines make the pedal feel firmer, and better pads and fluid fade less when the brakes are used hard over and over, like coming down a ghat road. Bigger calipers may not fit inside your current wheels, so it's worth checking that before anything is ordered.

06

Wheel and tyre upgrades

New wheels in a different size or width, on tyres picked for how you drive and the roads you use. The tyres are mounted and balanced, then the wheels are checked for rubbing at full lock and with the suspension compressed. Bigger wheels on low-profile tyres make the steering sharper, but they ride harder and a pothole is more likely to bend a rim.

Booking the work

How a bookingworks

WhatsApp or call first

Send the make, model and engine, and tell us what you want changed. Some cars and some of these jobs we can't take on yet, and it's better you hear that from us before you drive over.

By appointment

The car comes in at a time we've both agreed, and we go over the job with you again before any parts come off.

Earlier changes

Mention any earlier remap, aftermarket parts or warning lights on the dash when you message, because they change what can safely be fitted to the car.

Common questions

Before thework starts

Will a remap affect my car's warranty?

It can. A manufacturer can refuse an engine or gearbox claim if the car's software has been changed, and dealers can often tell that it has. If the car is still under warranty, talk to your dealer before going ahead.

Do I need to tell my insurer?

Yes, before the work is done. A remap, a new exhaust, lowered suspension and different wheels all count as modifications, and leaving them off your policy can give the insurer a reason to turn down a claim.

Which upgrade should I start with?

Start with whatever bothers you about the car now. If it feels slow, that points to the engine side, but if it rolls a lot in corners or the brakes feel weak, get those sorted before adding any power.

Can the car go back to standard later?

Usually, if you keep the parts that came off. The factory exhaust, intake, springs and wheels bolt back on, and the original engine software can be saved before a remap and written back onto the car, though a dealer may still be able to see that it was changed.
