Most of what's on this page starts with a wash, because you can't judge paint or glass properly while there's road dirt on it. What happens after that depends on what we find and how much of it you want sorted in one go.

The detailing list

What each jobinvolves

Hardly any car needs everything here, and we'd rather see yours before saying which of these jobs it needs.

01

Car wash and foam wash

A car wash here is done by hand, the way our aftercare page describes, and the car is dried with clean towels. A foam wash adds a step before that: thick snow foam goes on from a lance and is left to sit, so grit loosens and rinses off before anyone puts a mitt on the paint.

02

Interior deep cleaning

A regular interior clean is a vacuum and a wipe-down. A deep clean goes further: seats, carpets and mats are shampooed, leather is cleaned, and a brush gets out the dust packed into air vents and seat seams. Stains that have sat in light upholstery for a long time sometimes only fade, and we'll show you those at the start. Every step is listed further down.

03

Exterior detailing

After the wash, this deals with whatever is still stuck to the bodywork. Tar spots come off with a tar remover, the bonded grit you can feel as roughness on clean paint is lifted with a clay bar, and the windows are cleaned inside and out before the tyres and black plastic trim get a dressing. Scratches are left for correction, the next job on the list.

04

Paint correction

This is machine polishing that takes a very thin layer off the clear coat, so swirl marks, light scratches and water spot etching are levelled out. We find them under the studio's white LED grid, where they make the reflection of each tube look fuzzy at the edges. A scratch deep enough to catch a fingernail has usually gone too far to polish out safely.

05

Ceramic coating and graphene coating

A ceramic coating is a liquid that bonds chemically with the paint and hardens into a thin, clear layer. We use Asian Paints PPG ceramic coating. It makes the clear coat harder, so the paint is slower to pick up scratches, and it adds gloss and depth and leaves a surface that water beads on and dirt rinses off. A graphene coating is usually a ceramic-type coating with graphene added. Neither type will stop a stone chip, and neither goes over paint protection film.

06

Paint protection film (PPF)

PPF is a clear polyurethane film, matte or gloss, laid over painted panels by hand, so stone chips and light scratches land on the film and the paint under it stays as it was. Any mark already underneath shows straight through it, which is why correction comes first. We fit Avery Dennison film, and the paint protection page goes through how much of the car to cover.

07

Windshield protection film

Windshield film is fitted to the outside of the glass, where it takes the sand and small stones that would otherwise pit the windshield. A big enough stone can still crack it, and the film won't hide a chip that's already there. Once the wipers have worn it, the old piece peels off and a new one goes on.

08

Headlight restoration

Most modern headlight lenses are plastic, and they go yellow and cloudy once the coating on the outside breaks down in the sun. Restoring one means sanding and polishing that damaged layer away, then sealing the bare plastic with a fresh protective coat, since without one the lens yellows again much sooner. Condensation inside the lamp or a cracked lens can't be fixed from outside.

09

Engine bay detailing

A car that's just been driven in waits for the engine to cool, because rinsing a hot engine can damage it. Then we cover the exposed electrics and the air intake, loosen the grease and road grime with a degreaser and soft brushes, rinse the bay gently, dry it and dress the plastic covers.

10

Alloy wheel detailing

Brake dust bakes onto alloy wheels, and car shampoo on its own rarely shifts it. We work a wheel cleaner over the faces, between the spokes and as far into the inner barrel as a brush will reach, and clean the tyre sidewalls while we're there.

11

Glass coating

We wipe a glass coating onto the windshield and windows, so rain runs off while you drive and dried insects come away more easily. The wipers wear it off fastest, which means the area they sweep needs redoing before the side windows do.

Deep cleaning

Deep cleaning,outside and in

A deep clean goes a long way past a car wash. We look the car over first, adjust the process to its condition and the materials in it, and then work through every step below, on the outside and then in the cabin.

Exterior

The outside

01

Pre-wash and pressure rinse

Loose dust and road grime come off under a pressure washer before anything touches the paint, so there is less grit to drag across it in the wash.

02

Snow foam

Thick foam goes on from a lance and sits for a few minutes. It loosens and lifts what the rinse left behind, which means the wash mitt does far less rubbing on the paint.

03

Hand wash

The car is then washed by hand, panel by panel, with proper detailing products, so it comes clean without new wash marks going in.

04

Wheels, tyres and arches

Brake dust, road grime and the dirt packed into the wheel arches are cleaned off the alloys, the tyres and the inside of each arch.

05

Badges, grilles and gaps

Badges, grilles, trims and shut lines are the places dirt collects and a mitt can't reach, so they get a brush and a proper clean of their own.

06

Door jambs

Door frames, hinges and the inner edges of each door are cleaned. A regular wash usually misses them.

07

Exterior trim and rubber

Black plastics, rubber seals and trims are deep cleaned to take off the dirt and residue that builds up on them over time.

08

Hard water stains

Water spots and mineral deposits that have dried onto the paint, glass and trim are treated and removed, so the surface looks clear and even again.

09

Exterior glass

The outside of every window is cleaned of dirt, water marks and road film.

10

Drying and inspection

The car is dried carefully, then gone over once more to check nothing was missed before it goes back to you.

Interior

The cabin

01

Full vacuum

Seats, carpets, mats, footwells, the boot and the gaps between and under the seats are all vacuumed out.

02

Carpets and mats

Carpets and floor mats are cleaned to get out the dust, dirt and stains a vacuum leaves behind.

03

Seats

Fabric, leather and any other upholstery are each cleaned with the product that suits that material.

04

Leather

Leather is cleaned gently and then conditioned, so it keeps its look and its feel.

05

Dashboard and surfaces

The dashboard and the other hard surfaces in the cabin are cleaned of dust, dirt and residue.

06

Door panels

Door pads, handles, pockets and the lower sections where dirt settles are cleaned.

07

Centre console and storage

Switches, controls, cup holders and the storage compartments are cleaned around and inside.

08

AC vents and fine gaps

Air vents, buttons, switches and the small gaps where dust packs in are cleaned carefully.

09

Steering wheel and touch points

The steering wheel, controls, handles and the other surfaces hands land on most are cleaned thoroughly.

10

Seat rails and under the seats

The areas under and around the seats, which usually get skipped, are cleaned.

11

Boot

The boot and the surfaces around it are vacuumed and cleaned.

12

Interior glass

Windows and glass are cleaned from the inside so they are clear again.

13

Odour treatment

Where a cabin smells, it gets a treatment to bring the smell down and leave it fresher.

14

Final check

Every accessible area is checked once more before the car is handed back.

Send a WhatsApp or call either number, and we'll find a day that works for you to come in.

We look first

Before any work starts, we go over the bodywork and point out scratches, dents or paint damage that were already there.

Extra work

Sometimes a car turns out to need something that wasn't in the plan, like tar or paint overspray that an ordinary wash won't shift. We'll explain what it is, and nothing extra is done or charged until you've agreed.

Questions

What ownersask us

Will polishing damage my paint?

Polishing does take a little of the clear coat off every time, and that coat is thin to begin with, so we remove no more than the marks need. If a scratch has gone deeper than we can safely polish, we'll show you where it is and leave it.

Does my car need a coating or film?

Film is what stops stones chipping the paint. A coating doesn't do that, but it makes washing much easier and keeps water from sitting on the panels, which is why a lot of cars get film on the front and the rest coated.

Does a new car need polishing?

Sometimes. New paint can pick up light swirl marks on the way to you, from transport and from being washed at the dealership, and coating or filming over them keeps them there. We'll check it under the grid with you and say whether it needs correcting at all.

Can I take a coated car through an automatic car wash?

We'd avoid it. The spinning brushes scratch the paint and wear the coating down faster, and on a filmed car they can catch its edges. Our aftercare page shows how to wash it at home instead.
