Questions

Beforeyou book.

Owners tend to ask us the same things before they hand over the keys, and if your question isn't answered here, someone at the studio will answer it when you message us.

Protection

Film andcoating.

What is paint protection film?

It's a clear, thick polyurethane film laid over the paint, in a matte or gloss finish, and it's there to take the stone chips and light scratches the paint would otherwise get. From a metre away you'd have trouble seeing it.

Will it damage my paint when it comes off?

Not if the paint is sound and the film is taken off properly, slowly and with heat. Trouble shows up when film has gone over paint that was already lifting or has been resprayed before, which is why we look at the paint closely before we take the job on.

Is ceramic coating the same thing?

No, and you can't swap one for the other. Film is thick enough to take a stone chip. Ceramic is a thin, hard coating that makes the car easier to wash, but a stone will still chip the paint straight through it. You can have both on one car, on different panels. We never put ceramic over film, because it stops the film healing its own light scratches.

Which film do you fit?

Avery Dennison, on every car.

Can I do just the front of the car?

No. We don't do partial packages. The film goes on every painted panel, and the interior and the sunroof glass can be covered as their own jobs.

Colour and custom

Wraps, stripesand interiors.

Does a wrap ruin the paint under it?

No. The vinyl only sits on top of the clear coat, and it peels away from factory paint without lifting it. The one exception is paint that's been resprayed or is already flaking, which we check for before we start.

Are the pinstripes printed?

Not printed, no. A stripe is either painted with a brush or cut from vinyl. A brush line is done by eye, so up close the two sides never quite match. A vinyl stripe is cut to one width and can be peeled off again later.

Do you work on motorcycles as well as cars?

Yes, both. We book a bike in for as long as the job needs, and tanks and fairings usually take longer than you'd guess from their size.

Can you make a part nobody sells?

That's the bespoke side of the studio. We measure your car, draw the part from those measurements and try a test piece on the car before the final part is fitted. See Bespoke.

Practical

Time, priceand booking.

What does it cost?

We give you a price once we've looked at it in the studio. The same job on two cars can cost very different amounts once you count the panels and check the paint, so a fixed price list wouldn't be honest.

How long will you keep my car?

It depends on the work and on the condition it arrives in. We give you a date once the vehicle is in front of us, and we tell you straight away if something needs longer.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, everything at the studio is by appointment, so there's room for your car or bike when you arrive. If you send a photo on WhatsApp first, we can suggest what it probably needs and a day to come in.

Can I see what's wrong with my paint first?

Yes. We'll walk round it with you under the grid and point out the swirl marks or chips on your own paint before you decide anything.

For a question about your own vehicle, send us a photo and we'll reply in writing.

Ask us the awkward ones too, like what happens if the film lifts at an edge.

By appointment

Ask us.

If a job is outside what we do, we'll tell you when you first message us.
